energy zone

We use energy in the home every day; to watch TV, play music, keep ourselves warm, cook food, heat water. To create the power we need, we burn fuels like oil, coal and gas. This produces carbon dioxide and other gasses which are warming our planet and altering our climate in ways we can hardly predict but that will change our world forever. Take into account the pollution coming from our power stations and the great effort needed to extract and transport these fuels to the UK and you can see we need to think again about the energy we use.

We can all make a difference

It’s now possible to buy green electricity - energy produced by renewable methods, for example using wind or the power of the sun. In Northumberland a wind farm off the coast supplies energy to 3,000 homes, while around the UK over 40,000 homes have solar water heating systems.
